It has been used in Japan for over 100 years, initially as a bath sponge for newborns, thanks to its soft texture. Its popularity has spread to China, Southeast Asia, and Europe, where it is now widely used for cleansing. The sponge has a unique layer that retains water effectively. When saturated, this water layer forms a protective buffer between the sponge and the skin, ensuring that the fibers never directly contact the skin, preventing any irritation or damage even with vigorous scrubbing.
